Something Unbelievable/unimaginable/
I had an appointment with a particular company manager on Thursday,for
some negotiations with his company.
On getting there I noticed his car is not yet at its normal position.
it now dawned upon me that he has not yet come to work so I have to
wait for him since the whole thing is for my benefit...
Within the space of 15mins he arrived and we exchanged greetings and
he apologized for keeping me waiting...
When we got to his office, we started the discussion that concerns
our business negotiations, at a juncture said to me do you mind if I
give you an aptitude Test? In order to be very sure that what you are
about to negotiate with us is commensurate with your academical
prowess...
Boldly I said Go ahead...
He presented me with an turned A4 sized paper and said that the test
will last for just 30mins, I was about to ask why 30mins while not
make it 10 or 15 thinking that what he gave me has something to do
with English language, My Dear, I turned this paper to see set of
algebraic,quadratic,
Mathematics)at that juncture I saw myself in my chair and locker by
the wall where I use to stay those days in secondary school moping at
our Maths mistress as If I am interested in what she is saying.
For 5Mins I couldn't utter a word
The rhetorical questions that was going on in my head were...
Where do I start from?
Valentine what have you got yourself into?
All those time I was asking myself questions I nearly collapsed when I
looked at number 11 of the questions and I saw...If X =3.96 and
56_4½,=35 what's x (11b) x_46=9 4½=0 find x...
All my academical years I have always have this Mathematics phobia to
the extent that it gives me nausea at the hearing of the subject Maths
only without the TICS.
I wanted to give up and tell the manager that I can't do it.
I wanted to say Sir sorry I am in the wrong office.
I wanted to dash out without a trace from his office.
But a voice came within and said YOUNG MAN YOU CAN THIS! Take a closer
look at the paper and see how simple those numbers are to solve...
Bravely I accepted to write the aptitude test.
I took out my pen like Chinua Achebe,tapped my android calculator like
CHike Obi and lastly started sending those questions into the lagoon
like Oba Akiolu of lagos state.
What was I doing?
I was just busy doing math_magic...
I knew I was applying the fomulars I overheard my teacher saying those
days cos I was never interested in her teachings...
When I was through...
I gave the man the paper, before he commenced in looking at the paper
he first of all told me that he has 2masters in mathematics and a
degree in Economics( I said to myself "clap for your self")
At that point I have already taken my faith into my hands to accept
prospector to client insult(what's my stress anyway) he spent 15 good
minutes looking at my paper and solving things with a smile on his
face...
When he was through, he asked me what did you said was your discipline
in school? I answered...
He said I never knew we still have mathematicians in our young men of today...
Wow I am impressed...
I couldn't believe my ears, I thought he said " I never knew we still
have math_magicians in our young men of today, well I am disgraced...
The whole time I thought It was a dream until he stood and offered me
a heroic hand_shake...
And said meet me on Tuesday for our final negotiations...
Hmmmm it was really unbelievable...
Now I see the reason why Obama won the the USA presidential election
He believed in "yes I Can"
first impression matters a lot...
Believe so much that you can do it even when it appears you
can't,reaffirm your stand to say Yes I can...
The word Yes is so positive but it becomes extraordinary positive and
attracts success your way when you attach the 2words I can!!!
