Lewis Hamilton cruised to victory at the Hungary Grand Prix, equalling Michael Schumacher’s record for most wins at one course.
The Brit, who started the race in pole position at the Hungaroring, saw off second-placed Red Bull racer Max Verstappen by eight seconds.
It has put the 35-year-old at the top of the Driver’s Championship, overtaking Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas after three rounds.
But Hamilton’s latest victory is also a new record in Hungary as he won the race on that course for the eighth time in his career.
This equal’s F1 legend Schumacher who hit the same number of wins at the Magny-Cours in France.
“Believe it or not, I was still pushing out there, particularly for the fastest lap at the end,” Hamilton said.
“What I want to say is a huge congratulations to everyone back home at the factory.
“Even more on the engine department at HPP. Those guys have done such a fantastic job by developing and improving this year as well.
“Honestly, it was one of my favourite races to have raced. Whilst I was on my own for the race, it was just a different kind of challenge.
“Whilst we had great pace, it couldn't have been without guys, with great pit stops, great strategy and, right at the end there, because I was managing those mediums [tyres] for a long-long time, it was perfect to get on the fresh [soft] tyre and get the extra point.”
Hamilton has hit headlines recently with his stance in the Black Lives Matter movement – and he spoke out again in Hungary.
