However, with the Gunners 40 points Liverpool in ninth place, Arteta was keen to point out the gulf between the two clubs in his post-match interview, while also reflecting on the luck they had - with both goals coming from Liverpool errors.
He told Sky Sports: 'To beat this team you have to have moments in the game when you take your chances, defend in many moments, and you need a bit of luck, and today we had all of that.'
Asked what he liked most about the performance, Arteta said: 'The belief. I was worried about the 1-0 how we were going to react, because they are such a team with the pressing and how they play that they nullify you almost in many moments, and we were able to pick one moment and believe again.
'Before I came they would have gone down and today they reacted and said 'we need to go for it, we know how important this game is for us', and here is the reward.'
Arteta added: 'The gap between the two teams today is enormous, we can not improve it in two months, but the accountability, the fight is now equal and I am very proud of that. The rest will take some time.'
The former Gunners midifielder used his pre-match press conference to call on the club's board to splash the cash at the end of the season, and asked if needs money to rebuild Arsenal's squad to challenge with the likes of Liverpool, Arteta again didn't hold back, saying: '(It is) a big concern, you need quality, quality players and a big squad to compete in these competitions. It is a challenge.'
Arsenal face Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday and Arteta admitted that the Liverpool result would be a boost for his players going into that: 'In terms of energy and happiness in the dressing room before the semi-final, it's a good medicine.'
